    JLP Councillor crosses the floor
    9:16 am, Wed February 5, 2014

The governing People’s National Party (PNP) has confirmed that a Councillor from the opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has crossed the floor.

In a statement late Tuesday, the PNP said it has accepted in principle the application for membership by Esworth Frankson who is the Councillor for the Old Harbour Central Division in South West St. Catherine.
His application will be ratified by the PNP's Executive Committee when it meets on Monday.

On Tuesday, Frankson met with officials of the Party led by General Secretary Peter Bunting; Deputy General Secretary Julian Robinson; Chairman of Region Four Denise Daley and Mayor of Spanish Town, Norman Scott.

It is anticipated that Frankson will join PNP Councillors at the next sitting of the St. Catherine Parish Council on February 13.
And the JLP has revealed that Frankson had been expelled from the Party.

According to General Secretary, Dr. Horace Chang, it was discovered that the Councillor was maintaining close ties with the PNP.

“There has been concern that he has been caucusing with the PNP for sometime we kept working with him and eventually the party decided that he should be removed. We have appointed a candidate for the seat already, maybe that’s why he decided that he should formally join the PNP,” Chang said.

In a subsequent statement the JLP said it had appointed Steve Graham - who previously served as Coordinator for the divison - as caretaker.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.
