The End of Capitalism, Part I : Disruptive Technologies
Posted on January 1, 2013 by The Big PIcture

In this series we will explain how, in the next few decades, disruptive technologies can bring the global economy to a total collapse. We will show what can be done to prevent such collapse, and how we can put the economy on a path to sustained growth and prosperity.

The 4 Technologies that Will Make Your Job Obsolete

Every now and then new technologies change the way we do things and in the process make certain jobs obsolete. These are called disruptive technologies.

It is not a problem when one technology replaces another – for example, when Henry Ford’s Model T replaced the horse and buggy, or when the electric refrigerator replaced the icebox – because the new industry provides employment, and workers just need to retrain.

It is a problem, however, when new technologies displace workers by making the production process more efficient through automation. And it is even a greater problem when automation displaces workers at a much faster rate than new employment opportunities are created in the economy.

Here are the four disruptive technologies that will bring the global economy to a total collapse by making about 95% of the entire workforce redundant over the next few decades:

    1. Artificial Intelligence

Watson is an artificial intelligence computer system developed by IBM that is capable of processing natural language, information retrieval, reasoning, and knowledge representation.....

Is this really being introduced as of the date shown?
..don't know why but this reasoning seems to be 'old hat'...something broached decades ago? ...at least while I was still in high school 1950s - 1960s? Just sounds familiar...introduced to long, long ago? ...deja vu????

So when you say repeatedly that it's all about TEAM.... is it old hat? Was it introduced long, long ago?... deja vu????

Yes...but it was/is important for this board (1998 through to present) and is important for JA ...but that shall soon change for this board, JA shall follow after...to it eventually being 'rule rather than exception'.

It is thought provoking and attempting to address some real issues, but I must say I am wary of futuristic articles that make predictions like "95 percent of the work force will become redundant" because it is simply impossible to know that this far in advance.

We DO know that there will be a significant disruption to the workforce. We DO NOT know with any kind of certainty what the outcome will be.

As an example, in 1900 more than 40% of the US labor force was in the agricultural industry. Today it is 2% or thereabouts, producing more food than ever before. Imagine someone in 1900 being told that automation in agriculture would only require 2% of the labor force to sustain it, the response would most likely be "What are the other 40% going to do, starve?" Instead today there are jobs like personal trainers, web designers and air traffic controllers that those people could not have imagined. My expectation is that there will be more of those new professions.

My greatest concern is for the people caught mid-way through the transition as they will find it difficult to re-tool. That is the kind of problem government should help to solve. But the ones who are born into that new world, I think they will be fine.

I have started going through the Capitalist Myths section now and it is causing me some amount of frustration and , but I'll comment on it when I finish reading all 12

Looking forward to reading about this Flow Economy concept as well.

            Boss thinking!!!
            FORWARD!

Personal experience tells how rapidly the world has changed since I arrived in the 1940s. how this increasingly dizzying set of changes can occur decade to decade...year to year!

...the speed of changes during my last 10 years have been occurring at ever increasing speed. My imagination takes me to a place where I shall lift one leg to take a step and before it reaches its highest point dizzing chances would have occurred...forget about when that leg touches the ground next.

Would we be able to do by just 'mind commands'=think it?

I think it is possible. It might take a transplant of a chip in our brain or something.

The increasing rate of change is what is difficult to keep pace with. Future generations may live in a world where they constantly change to newly created professions every few years if not more often than that.

Perpetual learning will be essential, unless of course every few years we can just upload the new information on a new chip and replace the obsolete one in our brain and voila, instant new profession! Google to me is already kind of like that, an extension of our brain. Things I used to make an effort to remember I no longer have to, google knows so therefore I know.
