China Harbour Engineering Company has brought its CHEC Latin America, Venezuelan and San Francisco operations under one umbrella, and has renamed the division.

Jamaica remains the headquarters for the rebranded CHEC Americas Division headed by Zhongdong Tang, the company said in a press release on Wednesday.

The reorganisation and name change follows expansions in North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean, said CHEC, which also touted nearly US$1 billion of new business secured in various markets. Internationally, the company said it has scored some 70 contracts worth about US$7 billion.

As part of the restructuring efforts, CHEC Latin America was merged with the Venezuelan operation, but the company maintains a sub-office in Caracas, as well as in Panama City, Panama, and San Francisco, California, with Kingston as the focal point of the regional grouping.

Since due to its severe spatial limitations the KMR coastline (ie the tiny Ft Augusta prison lands ) CANNOT handle large-scale, heavy engineering ops like container crane assembly, storage and re-export...along with a fleet of dredgers and support vessels & related equipment. etc .. a larger coastal facility is obviously required.... Enter Goat Islands
