Ministry of Tourism | 2014-01-17 00:00:00
Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, the Hon. Dr. Wykeham McNeill, is scheduled to participate in important meetings with representatives from Carnival Cruise Lines and the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) in Miami, Florida, as well as the Port Authority of Jamaica, as part of efforts to boost cruise shipping locally. Minister McNeill departed the island on January 17, 2014.
The meeting with Carnival Cruise Lines will focus on critical matters such as the optimal use of the Reynolds Pier in Ocho Rios as well as the possibility of developing the pier to enable industrial port activities and cruise activities to co-exist. Carnival is one of the world’s leading cruise lines with some 24 ships operating 3 to 18 day voyages to destinations, including Jamaica, Europe, as well as Central and South America.
The meeting with representatives from the FCCA will explore plans to further develop the island’s cruise offering and efforts to further bolster the partnership with member cruise lines. The FCCA, which comprises 15 member cruise lines operating more than 100 vessels in Floridian, Caribbean and Latin American waters, provides a forum for discussion on tourism development, ports, tour operations, safety, security and other cruise industry issues.
Minister McNeill returns to the island on Saturday, January 18, 2014.
