A Fort Myers man flipped his car while texting earlier this month and an officer from the Fort Myers Police Department caught the entire thing on camera.
Michael James Woody Jr., 23, of Fort Myers, was cited for careless driving and texting while driving after crashing and rolling his car on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. At the time, he was being followed by an FMPD officer due to his erratic driving, according to a crash report from the department.
Shortly after 1 a.m. on Jan. 4 m. Officer Ivan Moorer was traveling southbound on Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard approaching Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard we he saw a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am driving erratically directly in front of his patrol vehicle, according the report.
Moorer followed the driver as he turned on to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Footage from the cruiser’s dashboard camera then shows the Pontiac accelerate right across the lane and onto the sidewalk where it struck a guardrail, bus stop sign and tree before rolling over, according to the report. Woody crawled out of the overturned vehicle and was uninjured, according to the report.
