Jamaica Labour Party caretaker for Central Manchester, Sally Porteous, is refusing to comment on suggestions that she is using spousal abuse allegations about the former People’s National Party (PNP) candidate Vando Palmer to further her political career.
The allegations were made by Mr. Palmer's wife.
But in a subsequent letter to the PNP General Secretary dated April 15, sent to media houses on Thursday, Marcia Palmer denied that Mr. Palmer had hit her.
She said that in making a police report, she had overstated an altercation between them.
According to Mrs. Palmer, in speaking to Mrs. Porteous, she was simply outlining her hurt to another woman whom she believed would be impartial during a period of emotional turmoil.
In response, Mrs. Porteous told our newscentre that she has no intention of getting into the middle of the mess that has been created.
Mr. Palmer has since resigned as the party's candidate for the constituency.
