Thats the politics of it all,my friend islandman said capitalism is the greatest economic tool that has raised standards of living that man has never known, well slavery helped to build a solid capitalist foundation for western europe and the americas to reach that capitalist standard. At a catastophic global cost, that leaves everyone involved confused about the right way to rectify it,both former slaves and masters.THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!
"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.
"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

If reparations are paid directly to the citizens I can assure you that the majority of it will be gone from the communities within 5 years and all that will be left of the gold will be some aging gold rims, gold chains and gold teeth.Last edited by Islandman; January 6, 2014, 11:10 PM."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

Not really. Americas rise as a world power based on free market capitalism was post-slavery. In fact the poorest parts of the country have been the ones that oppressed slaves and former slaves the most.
Free market capitalism is the way to go.No other economic system has created more wealth and all the others have brought their share of oppression , maybe even more than capitalism has.Last edited by Islandman; January 6, 2014, 10:52 PM."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

The rise that you speak of does not negate the fact that slavery was that solid foundation with a statement of not really. No one can dispute the rise ,but historians will dispute your...not really...a simple question for self reflection would be, what role did freed slaves under jimcrow ,segregated, kkk, states play in this industrial revolution.
I am pretty sure its more than not really much ? I am surprised by your tone.THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

Well, I disagree because there was slavery in a lot of places that had nothing to do with capitalism. There was slavery from Biblical days and throughout the middle ages long before capitalism as we know it existed. None of them brought a higher quality of life to the broad section of people that capitalism has. Only kings, queens and other society elites benefited.
Because of capitalism you and I have a standard of living today that those kings and queens could only dream about. We can travel thousands of miles in a day, we can watch games on the other side of the planet, we can speak to our family anywhere in the world at a cost that is very affordable.
God Bless Capitalism!
In fact, one could argue that capitalism helped to end slavery just as it had helped to make it a profitable enterprise. Had there been no industrial revolution and the majority of the work force had stayed in agriculture, chances are slavery in the New World would have lasted much longer."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

No because we are largely uneducated and have little experience managing lump sums of money. In short order it would go right back to the so-called greedy businessmen we like to vilify. But then I suppose we could then just cry victim again and demand another round of gold for everybody.
I am more for giving my people the resources they need so we will no longer be perpetual victims."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass
