Actually HL Tanya was singed to major label. I think it was Universal Europe for a while. Tanya has some stripped down songs with more vocals on it.
However like Lady Saw, she is a rebel and want to do whatever she like, whether it is hiphop, reggae, Jazz or choose the topic she wants and she has taken control of her music and just with distribution deal.
