Jamaica commits to spending limit

The Government of Jamaica has told the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that by March next year, it will be ready to adopt legislation, binding it to spend within a certain limit.
The government was originally set to present a draft bill laying out its plans in this regard by the end of August, 2013, but had missed that deadline. It says it will now revise all relevant legislation necessary to effect the changes, to ensure a sustainable budget balance starting with the next budget.
The rules are to be legally binding.
