Platinum-selling,Reggae-dancehall artiste Busy Signal was recently welcomed to Uganda in fine style, as show promoters and the Ugandan government arranged a welcoming motorcade for the Bumaye singer.
"It was a lot of people, males, females, government officials and children. Persons where riding bikes and others were in vehicles, and I just got a chance to say 'hi' to the people and kept it lively. The motorcade was arranged by the government in collaboration with the promoters and people just joined along. It was my fifth time going to Africa but my first time going to that area, and it was overwhelming to see the love I received. I can't explain it," a seemingly happy Busy Signal told The Gleaner.
"I performed for three hours during which I even changed my clothes and returned ... big people type of vibe. The stadium is made to carry 42,000 persons and they managed to squeeze in 50,000, and I did two shows and they were sold out," Busy Signal said.
The reception for dancehall is good, but for reggae music it's bigger ...songs like Reggae Music Again and my rendition of The Gambler, reggae style, are very big songs in Uganda. The world is a very big place and reggae music gave birth to dancehall, hip hop, reggaeton and such. But outside of Jamaica, reggae music is the biggest thing, no disrespect to dancehall. But we were always told this by the elders, and based on what I have seen from being all over the world, reggae music is known worldwide," the artiste said.
"I am just thanking the people who believe in me, my versatility, my lyrics and melodies. You are never going to have Busy Signal just doing one kind of music," he said.
According to Busy Signal, both dancehall and reggae artistes should work on their material if they want to have lasting careers on the world stage.
The Bumaye artiste will be busy for the festive season with performances in Belize, Brazil, and again in Africa. "Normally, I would take a trip to the country and chill out a few days with mi grandmother. Drink some june plum juice and eat some real yellow yam. But right now mi just a put een the work because I was away for a while," Busy Signal said.

Busy Signal on stage last Friday

Glendale Goshia Gordon aka Busy Signal proved he is one of the few Jamaicans you would die to watch on stage over and over. The singer on Friday took to the Lugogo cricket oval stage at 11pm with his hit single, Jail Again, which fired the show that had started at a slow pace.
His first one hour was a non-stop sample of some of his less known songs.
But when he returned for the second session that lasted two hours, he did Uganda’s favourite hits such as Step Out, Loaded, D.O.B, Reggae Music Again, Reggae Dubb’n Again, Tic Toc, Come Shock Out and Why I Sing.
“This is one of my biggest shows. I love Uganda. I am contemplating buying a house and make this Uganda my second country,” said the energised singer, who said he composes all his music.
“I’m feeling at home. People said a lot of things that I was not coming, but here I am singing live music, not miming.”
When he did his famous Bedroom Bully, fans in the VIP section stood on their chairs to dance to the tune. To prove his love for Uganda, the singer did a three-hour show and had to be advised to stop as he wanted to continue till dawn.
According to Suudi Lukwago, the show’s promoter, who was overwhelmed by the big crowd, he did not expect such a crowd.

“We pulled off a big show without big sponsors, thanks to Musa Kavuma [KT] and his mobilization skills,” said Suudi as he attacked Bebe Cool who had written on his Facebook wall that the show was going to be a flop.
Before his performance, revellers were treated to a music selection by DJ Shiru and curtain raisers like Red Banton, Coco Finger, Ragga Dee, Diamond Oscar, Dr Propa, Rena, Peter Miles, and Menshan, among others.

Missing was the main curtain raiser, Jose Chameleone, who chose to go and support his brother Douglas ‘Weasel’ Mayanja in a parallel show metres away after a misunderstanding with the organisers.
The show ended at 2am with every one praising the singer for giving them something worth their money.
