Ganja study being released this morning

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- A study on the uses of marijuana scheduled to be presented this morning by researcher Don Anderson and noted scientist Dr Henry Lowe shows that almost a third of all persons who used ganja, used it for medicinal purposes and the majority (86 per cent) of persons interviewed stated that the Government should support the use of ganja for medicinal purposes.
The study, which also looked at the uses of other herbs, was conducted by Anderson's Market Research Services Ltd and commissioned by Lowe, known for his cancer research.

Lowe was one of three local scientists who worked together on the development of Cannasol, a product from ganja, for the treatment of Glaucoma.
Wednesday night, Lowe said that the results of the study could provide significant and enlightening information on the local uses of marijuana and also offer important information to aid policymakers in their decision-making on the subject of medical marijuana.
"The results could also help local scientists and doctors to understand how marijuana is being used locally, inform on research areas for the potential uses of medical marijuana and also provide information on possible products that can be developed from marijuana," Lowe said.
The results of the islandwide study will be publicised at a function at Eden Gardens starting at 9:30 am.
