Court Throws Out Williams' Injunction Application Against Holness

The Supreme Court has denied an application from ex-Opposition Senator Arthur Williams who was seeking an injunction to bar Opposition Leader Andrew Holness from filling vacant seats in the Opposition Senate.
The former Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate had brought the application to the court challenging the decision of Holness to submit undated Senate resignation letters to the Governor General.
Justice Paulette Williams handed down her ruling in chambers a short while ago.
She said she will give her written reasons on Friday.
However, the judge noted that the office of the Leader of the Opposition is a constitutional authority and she cannot restrict constitutional appointments.
The resignations of Williams and Dr Christopher Tufton were announced in the Upper House on November 15, although they had said they had no intention to step down following the Jamaica Labour Party leadership race.
The Opposition Leader had announced Jamaica College principal Ruel Reid as one of the replacements.
