Anglers net a sunfish so big they thought it was an alien

Two Jamaican fishermen reeled in a 800-pound sunfish on Sunday, which is remarkable on two levels. First, sunfish aren't usually encountered around Jamaica. And second, though sunfish can reach two tons, 800 lbs. is a really, really big fish for two guys to catch.

Desmond Phillips, one of the two fishermen, thought it was otherworldly. "At first I thought it was an alien, and I was somewhat frightened," Phillips told the Jamaica Gleaner. He wanted to let the fish go.

But his fishing buddy and captain, Michael Grant, was intent on not letting the creature escape, so the two managed to get the gigantic fish onto their relatively small boat, nearly sinking it in the process.

"sunfish aren't usually encountered around Jamaica" I cannot agree with this statement, I have even seen this fish been sold to a hotel in Kingston, I have eaten it in Lucea. This fish is so sweet, that I am sure I could not eat a pound at one seating, is like asking me to eat 12 Robin mango, I would say if you are diabetic, not to over indulge in eating that fish and Robin mango.

I was wondering about the outcome of this catch. Good to know that it will be consumed. Have not tasted it--but would be willing to try. Have a feelin' some cuts will see some jerk seasoning...

On another note, diabetic folks would do well gorging themselves on this protein--not on the carbohydrates in Robin mango
