    George Zimmerman, who was acquitted this summer of murdering teenager Trayvon Martin, has been arrested in Florida after deputies responded to a "disturbance call."

    Zimmerman was arrested by the Seminole County Sheriff's Office at about 1 p.m. today, authorities said.
    He will be transported and booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.
    No further details were immediately available.
    The sheriff's office said they will be releasing the arrest report and 911 call as soon as they are available.
    Today's incident is Zimmerman's latest run in with the law.
    In September, he was released without charges after his wife called 911 to say Zimmerman punched his father-in-law in the nose and threatened to shoot him and his wife.
    He claimed that he was acting in a "defensive manner" during the incident, according to police, who later added that they never found a gun on Zimmerman.
    Zimmerman was acquitted in July of the murder of teenager Trayvon Martin.

      George Zimmerman has been arrested following a domestic disturbance call this afternoon that allegedly came from his pregnant girlfriend who said he pointed a shotgun at her.
      His latest criminal charges have not been released but sheriff Don Eslinger has confirmed that Zimmerman was arrested on Monday shortly after 1pm.
      Local station WESH has reported that the he has been accused of domestic violence by a girlfriend, but the formal charges have not been announced by police.

      Zimmerman was picked up by police in Apopka at the intersection of Topfield Court and Bonnie Drive.
      The girlfriend in question has not been identified by officials but MailOnline was able to exclusively identified Samantha Scheibe as George's new love interest.
      Ms Scheibe is said to live on Topfield Court which would possibly connect her to the scene of Zimmerman's arrest. The Orlando Sentinel reported that an associate of the Zimmerman family have confirmed that he has been living with Ms Scheibe for several weeks.

      TMZ was the first to report that Zimmerman's girlfriend is pregnant, and if that is the case and a gun was involved in the domestic disturbance, he will automatically be charged with a felony.

      WKMG reported that he is not eligible for bail.

      A local news reporter from WFTV cites an unidentified source who says that the Monday afternoon incident involved Zimmerman, his girlfriend and a gun.

      Zimmerman's former lawyer Mark O'Mara, who defended him in the high-profile murder trial, announced that he will no longer be representing Zimmerman and has no involvement in today's arrest.

        GUN BAN FOR INDIVIDUALS CONVICTED OF A MISDEMEANOR CRIME OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE -- 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(9)




        The 1968 Gun Control Act and subsequent amendments codified at 18 U.S.C. § 921 et seq. prohibit anyone convicted of a felony and anyone subject to a domestic violence protective order from possessing a firearm. The intended effect of this new legislation is to extend the firearms ban to anyone convicted of a "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence."
        This bill passed with almost unanimous support and represents Congress's recognition that "anyone who attempts or threatens violence against a loved one has demonstrated that he or she poses an unacceptable risk, and should be prohibited from possessing firearms." Congressional Record, p. S11878, September 30, 1996. This new provision affects law enforcement in three interrelated ways. First, it will assist in preventing those individuals who have demonstrated a propensity for domestic violence from obtaining a firearm. Second, it will assist law enforcement by providing a tool for the removal of firearms from certain explosive domestic situations thus decreasing the possibility of deadly violence. Finally, it will serve as a federal prosecution tool in certain situations where alternatives have failed.

          George Zimmerman was arrested on domestic violence charges Monday after pointing a shotgun at his girlfriend, breaking a table and pushing her out of her Seminole County home, deputies said.
          Zimmerman is being held without bail at the Seminole County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a weapon — a felony — domestic violence battery and criminal mischief.
          Deputies received a call from 27-year-old Samantha Scheibe around 12:30 p.m. Monday and when they responded to the home three minutes later, Zimmerman was there and was not armed.
