Bill Maher and Anthony Weiner join forces to defend Obamacare
HBO host Bill Maher has found an ally in failed New York City mayoral candidate and former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) when it comes to Obamacare. And the duo sure is willing to go to bat for President Barack Obama no matter how disastrous the rollout is.
Weiner and guests David Avella, Victoria DeFrancesco Soto and John Heilemann joined Maher on “Real Time” on Friday night. When the topic of conversation turned to the Affordable Care Act, Maher and Weiner teamed up against GOPAC President Avella and political scientist DeFrancesco Soto to defend the law.
“The fundamentals are that when we went into this conversation, people were losing their health care every single day, okay? Every single day, people were losing their health care,” Weiner said.
“And dying,” Maher continued.
DeFrancesco Soto noted, though, President Obama’s failed if-you-like-your-plan-you-can-keep-it promise, and said it was an assurance the President made time and time again when it was, in fact, a lie.
Weiner tried to come to Obama’s defense, saying it wasn’t wrong. DeFrancesco Soto then accused him of being paternalistic, and the former Congressman agreed.
“Yes, I’m trying to take care of 40 million uninsured Americans,” he shot back.
Maher joked Obama wasn’t dishonest, he simply “evolved on honesty.”
“Are you kidding?” the “Real Time” host said. “When did [George W.] Bush ever say he was sorry?”
