Maggotty High student in vulgar dance video won’t be expelled Thursday, October 31, 2013 | 8:32 PM
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica -- The Maggotty High School female student involved in a lewd dance video circulating on the Internet will not be expelled.
Instead, she will be counselled and several steps will be taken to ensure that a similar incident does not recur, principal of the St Elizabeth school, Rawle Bent, told Observer Online late Thursday.

Bent said that the decision was taken after extensive discussions by the school's board on the implications of the online post and the student involved.
A video showing teenagers wearing Maggotty school uniform gyrating in sexually explicit dancing at an event drew widespread condemnation when it hit social media last weekend. It was later revealed that the video was filmed in 2011 and all the students involved had graduated then, except one.
"The parent of the student still attending school was called in and was encouraged to work with her daughter," said Bent. "The school will be making every effort to provide counselling for her.
"The school also will be using this incident as a teaching tool to guide the students as to what constitutes appropriate behaviour, especially when wearing school uniform," Bent said.
"Furthermore, the school is about to launch a mentorship programme and it is hoped that it will positively impact all students."
Bent added that there are other strategies that were discussed which will be implemented in a timely manner.
