    Rare earths and rarer success

    Published: Tuesday | October 15, 2013 1 Comment
To be fair, JLP have their share of guilt with this too.

    THE EDITOR, Sir:
Will the People's National Party Government prone to making big unsubstantiated announcements ever end?
What happened to the much-touted rare-earths discovery? And now the idea of a logistics hub, which seems so far-fetched judging from Government's lack of communication?
Previously, we had the Tavistock/ Harmonization project, and the expansion of the Falmouth Pier was promoted as a game-changer for Jamaica.
Under this Government, we don't seem to have the will to endure collective and personal sacrifices. This is indeed economic schizophrenia, to take a term from The Gleaner's editorial of October 13, 2013.
It is on these things that I think Finance Minister Peter Phillips should focus on, since the prime minister is always unavailable, possibly to insulate herself from talking herself out of power. But we will not exit quicksand until we face this reality, no matter how Portia ducks the proverbial bullet.

    No...ah suh dem dweet

What happened to the much-touted rare-earths discovery?
The pilot plant to test the efficiency of the rare metal processing from our red dirt is complete... and the first shipments of raw material have been received. Please stand by as this discovery phase progresses

Of course this plant is located in the Hope Rd tech corridor AKA Silicon Gully ... between Jamaica College and UWI/UTECH ...the intellectual nexus of Jamaica ... so keep hope alive as Jamaica's best brainpower is engaged on the problem

And now the idea of a logistics hub, which seems so far-fetched judging from Government's lack of communication?
Termites are marching forward with this project (in secrecy) as it is critical to electoral success in the ~2017 time frame. This project will be executed as long as di Chiney dem want it.

Secrecy is required because the project site in the Old Harbour offshore & mainland area will lead to substantial environmental degradation... breaking previous commitments to protect this area...yuhzimi?? .

Previously, we had the Tavistock/ Harmonization project,
Sarry...dat look like it dead since di 2008 crisis when Tavistock principal Joe Lewis went belly up

In the immortal words of a past Termite PM.. Fahget it!!
and the expansion of the Falmouth Pier was promoted as a game-changer for Jamaica.
People who believe a facility to sell trinkets & taxi rides to oversized Americans would be a "game changer" have been played for fools

Under this Government, we don't seem to have the will to endure collective and personal sacrifices. This is indeed economic schizophrenia, to take a term from The Gleaner's editorial of October 13, 2013.
Woooiiiee mi bang belly!! Yuh juss ah realize dat?? Yuh late bad

It is on these things that I think Finance Minister Peter Phillips should focus on, since the prime minister is always unavailable, possibly to insulate herself from talking herself out of power. But we will not exit quicksand until we face this reality, no matter how Portia ducks the proverbial bullet.
PM Simpson-Miller is busy with prime ministerial duties featuring extensive hugging & kissing of folks as well as making inane pronouncements & visiting important events concerning her extremely critical sports portfolio... Yuh know how much time & energy dat tek??

Consequently there's little time left to her to address little problems like a sinking economy

Please cut the honourable PM some slack... but be assured that the Auto-Pilot is engaged and functioning well
