paltry compared to the excessive awards issued in the american jury system. our system, a judge is the finder of fact and makes the awards in civil matters.
under the jury ssytem jurors tend to be more emotional (if it was me or my family i would awant ..)
also punitive/pecuniary damages are only awarded in egregious cases usually against the state and the sums are not intended to be strictly punitive in nature.

the issue was not whether she was less than forthcoming about who she was going to etc, it was more about HOW SHE WAS TREATED. in other words they had more than sufficient reason to deny her entry in my opinion, bu7t theey had no basis for treating her as they did and the officers blatantly lied ....
