Singapore could be invited to discuss plans for Logistics hub
    6:37 pm, Thu September 26, 2013

Francis Kennedy, President of the Jamaica Chamber of Commercesays he is in discussions with Anthony Hylton, Industry Minister, to bring officials from Singapore to discuss best practices with Jamaica in building a logistics hub.

Singapore is one of the three global logistics hubs with the others being Dubai and Rotterdam.

Jamaica is currently in discussions with Chinese investors to construct a logistics hub on the Goat Islands off the coast of the central parish of St Catherine.

It has been revealed that the intention is to build port facilities on the islands and an economic zone on the mainland to produce among other things, gantry cranes for the Latin American market. China currently has only 10 percent of the market for gantry cranes in Latin America and wants to increase that stake by producing the cranes in Jamaica through a US$1.5 billion which should employ 10,000 people.

Boss yuh ever hear some music whey nice but yuh nuh waan dance? yet yuh haffi move a leg? Di chney man ah drop some serious chune.

Good move to bring in Singapore because Ja can't really manage the Chinese. Game changer.

The crane building argument grabs me above all. D1 it seems as if you may need to get in touch with Paulwell to push the robot kits all over Ja.

If they are going to build cranes here then it only follows that a new college of Science and engineering be built to suit the needs of crane manufacture. A Ja institute of Technology on the south coast (easy commute for rural students and less distraction).

As for the environmentalist: Ask the fishermen if their lives have made any improvement over the years practicing that centuries style fishing? Are you living in a nice home? are kids in good school, proper nutrition, immunization et al? If no, it's time you seek a new means of emply. You could drive a truck at the hub or acquire a new skill to work there. You wont have to be worried about being lost at sea anymore. The rest of you guys that still want to catch fish; fish farm. Ever heard of that? Raise the Parrots and snappers in a huge pond. I just can't see Ja sitting in poverty and talking about environment. When something needs to be built in Europe or North America mountains are blasted and nature is shoved about to achieve an end Ja has to be make stipulations though with education at the forefront.
