Police were this morning called in to the Fair Prospect High School in East Portland after classes were disrupted by students and parents protesting over the dismissal of two female teachers.

The teachers were dismissed last week after they were involved in a fight.

The Principal Godfrey Flemmings said the school’s Board took the decision on Wednesday to terminate the services of the two teachers after they discussed the incident which was witnessed by other members of staff.

But students and parents were not pleased with their dismissal and gathered at the school to voice their objection.

They are demanding that the women be reinstated.

The students insist they will be staying away from classes until the teachers are given back their jobs.

Meanwhile, police who were on the scene had to form a protective shield around the principal and escort him to his office after he was threatened.

A representative from the Education Ministry is also at the institution in an effort to have the issue resolved.

But the students and parents say they will continue the protest until the teachers are reinstated

Were these 2 teachers fighting EACH other, or both were fighting someone else?

Something tells me that we are not getting the full story here.

based on reports, they were fighting each other. If that is the case the board did the right thing or at least the aggressor should have been fired.

...but irrespective, Jamaica can be such a sad place at times.

Basic problem solving is still carried out in a primative way.

I guess when the union gets involved...it's going to be another complication to the issue....~sigh~~
