Over 1000 hotel workers have lost jobs in last 12 months

More revelations on the job crunch facing Jamaicans were unveiled in parliament on Friday. Leader of government business in the senate, A.J. Nicholson told members of the upper house that well over one thousand hotel workers have lost their jobs over the last 12 months. In response to questions posed by opposition senator Robert Montague, Mr. Nicholson said based on the latest figures, approximately one thousand, four hundred and eighty eight tourism workers have been laid off or have been made redundant over the period. He highlighted the major tourist resorts which were affected. Meanwhile when pressed about the future of the Braco resorts, Mr. Nicholson said more workers will be taken on, as the owners of the property, the National Insurance Fund, gets ready to find a suitable management company as operators.
