Bon voyage to the Rastafarian Queen Zahra Redwood. The Miss Jamaica Universe winner is preparing to go to Mexico for the Miss Universe finals. On Monday night Pulse executives gave the press the chance to view pieces of Zahra's exquisite wardrobe at the Pulse penthouse on Trafalgar Road.
Pulse CEO Kingsley Cooper started off the evening by wishing Zahra safe travel, proclaiming, "I'm not sure if Mexico is ready for Miss Jamaica, but Miss Jamaica is ready for Mexico."
Zahra has spent her first few weeks as queen anxiously preparing to head off to Mexico learning about the culture, language, and even learning how to salsa dance.
The first look for the night was very casual, as Puma provided sports attire in Jamaican colours, with a jacket, pants, shirt and sneakers.
Also on the casual side were designs from Mosiah, which are very cultural. The designs were named after National Hero Marcus Mosiah Garvey. From Mosiah, Zahra modelled a cute red top with a little pleated skirt.
Up next was a sheer beige skirt with a midriff-baring orange top, Simya Clothing House. Red was a prominent feature of Zahra's wardrobe. Mr Cooper described her as the ultimate lady in red.
Touch of elegance
The red dress she wore was short and sexy with silver sequins, giving it a touch of elegance. Also from Melyse was a flirty white off-shoulder dress that had a slight peasant style with puffy sleeves.
For the conferences, Zahra sported a well-fitted black suit with a black and white shirt underneath, from Designs by Mark.
Also in the collection was a pretty blue floral dress from Mutumba. The material was very light and Zahra seemed to float in it. One of the more interesting designs for the night was from Keneea Linton. The design, a very African-looking gold, red and black dress with a little slit between the bust, was sexy and interesting.
The evening dresses were very elegant, with the opening number from Barry Moncrieffe. Zahra wore a cream Roman-style gown, with a strap on one shoulder, glitter at the top and a long split in the centre. Designs from specialists Uzuri were next. They began with a short funky red cocktail dress. The dress was glittery with layered frills at the bottom and a feathered design at the top.
Looking spectacular in blue, Zahra modelled another gown from Uzuri. The top was glittery and the bottom had a long slit with an accompanying long train.
Ashley Renee presented a red dress, interestingly cut, with a long split at the front and a train at the back with a floral-like design in green and orange. The national dress was a Rastafarian design from Moncriefe. With a long red cape in Rasta colours with a huge lion emblazoned on the back. She also wore a long red skirt with green and black strips at the bottom and a black T-shirt with the image of Bob Marley etched in the fabric. Zahra looked majestic.
