Decapitated Referee Video Circulates Online After Greusome Soccer Murder
A soccer referee was decapitated by unruly soccer fans last month in Brazil. A video of the incident has now made its way online.
The Inquisitr reported earlier that the referee, Otavio da Silva, was officiating an amateur soccer match in the soccer-crazed country when he tried to eject one of the players, Josenir Abreu. Abreu refused to leave the field and the two got into a serious altercation on the field.
Silva wound up stabbing Abreu who would later die from his wounds on his way to the hospital. After the fatal stabbing, soccer fans rushed the field and attacked the referee. Silva was then killed, decapitated, and quartered. The fans then placed the referee’s decapitated head on a stake.
One arrest has been made but police are still looking for other people involved in the incident.
The Chief of Police in Santa Ines said: “Reports of witnesses have indicated some people that were in place at the time of the fact. We will identify and hold accountable all those involved. A crime will never justify another. Actions like this do not collaborate with the legality of a state law.
CP reports that the incident occurred on June 30, 2013 but the decapitated referee video didn’t start circulating on the internet until this week. We’re not going to post the video here due to the graphic nature of the crime but you can watch the raw footage at LiveLeak.
Sadly, this isn’t the only time that a soccer referee was killed in the line of duty. Ricardo Portillo was killed earlier this year when he was punched in the face while refereeing a recreational soccer match in Salt Lake City.
