'Save him from himself'
THE EDITOR:
A few years ago, when I stared a master's programme in counselling psychology, one of the entry requirements was to undergo and pass a psychological evaluation to ensure that I was a good subject for a profession in counselling psychology.
At another university, I did research on the psychological profile of Adolph Hitler. And one of my findings was that Hitler's father spent very little time speaking with his wife, who was Hitler's mother.
To gain the attention of her husband, therefore, Hitler's mother would often complain about Hitler's behaviour to her husband when he came home in the evenings. This resulted in Hitler's father administering physical punishment on Hitler on a regular basis. While this may not be the sole reason for Hitler's behaviour, Hitler finally became a tyrant, as the world knows.
I say all of the above to imply that persons entering certain government institutions should be subjected to and required to pass a psychological evaluation or analysis before entering the service. This means that their formative years or childhood experiences would be examined to determine what sort of officers they are likely to be.
If you are beating someone to restrain them, there are many places to hit them other than in their head. Any persistent beating to their head is a beating to either kill or to cause permanent mental impairment. To beat a medical doctor to death, or to cause mental impairment, is to destroy years of valuable training and specialised intelligence and to deprive society of what you are not able to give them.
Whoever, therefore, tries to destroy a doctor in this manner is stark staring mad, and is therefore not suitable for his or her job. It follows even worse, therefore, that if such a beater has a history of 27 reports against him or her for beating and still has that job, then clearly the Government is waiting for such a one to finally commit the heinous crime of homicide before they are removed totally from the service.
Mr. Thomas, please save that person from himself or herself. He or she will thank you in the end. Right now he or she cannot help himself or herself. Over to you Lucius - please speak now or forever hold your peace.
