Lights out at Independence Park complex

Independence Park complex which includes the National Stadium has been without electricity over the last five days since the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) disconnected electricity for outstanding bills.
RJR Sports sources have revealed that the JPS cut the power from the complex last Thursday after the an outstanding bill of over J$19-million was not settled. It's understood that the outstanding amount was accrued over a four month period.
The complex is responsible for the management of the National Stadium, the National Indoor Sports Centre, the swimming pool, the netball and basketball courts as well as the National Arena which houses the Institute of Sports and several other sporting associations.
Karen Anderson, the General Manager of the Jamaica Netball Association, was among the few persons in offices located at the Arena on Tuesday. She said business has been adversely affected .
Major Desmond Brown, General Manager of the complex, and Mike Fennell, Chairman, are both overseas.
