That's a very good question Exile, I too wondered whether the woman is not mentally ill. This is not to excuse the wickedness, but we have sick (mentally) people among us who need help and of course with priorities of many being just survival I suspect a lot of these people are falling through the cracks.
It is very sad indeed that a young innocent baby (really) pays the price for... ??Peter R
