..not mistaken that album won the grammy!!
It's an excellent piece of work.
It's just incredible the talent that some Jamaican musicians have.
Black Uhuru has a unique sound--irrespective of the composition of the singers.
I played the LP ( Album) RED almost everyday...back-in-the dayZ.The only time TRUTH will hurt you...is if you ignore it long enough

Black Uhuru equals the hardest form of Reggae music, I have always lamented that the music did not develop in that direction, sort of like a second or third generation evolution of rockers sound. One of my biggest disappointments on the music side was missing out on a Uhuru concert in 1984, they were supposed to be at new Kingston drive in in 1984 and broke up right at that time, or that is what my memory recalls.

I have a whole heap of Black Uhuru CDs. I love the Anthem album, Red, Sensemilla, The Black Uhuru Anthology. I saw them at the Carter Baron Amphitheater in Washington DC in 1990. The lead singer what then Don Carlos, as they had lost Michael Rose and then Junior Reid as lead singers and Carlos came back into the picture. They are one of my favorite reggae groups of course."Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance." ~ Kahlil Gibran

Remember that original Uhuru started with Don Carlos as lead singer in the early 70. He is very good too."Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance." ~ Kahlil Gibran

Micheal Rose, era was the best to me. I remember at one time Black Uhuru had 4 songs in the Jamaican top ten including "Guest who is coming to dinner" "Shine eye Girl" and two others.
That Athem album was a labour of love which tell the tales of when a group of singers, musicians and engineer lock themselves in a studio and wanted to create something good and powerful.Last edited by Assasin; May 21, 2013, 08:58 AM.- Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Absolutely, guess who is coming to dinner, shine eye gal, plastic smile etc, wicked start. Don Carlos was the anchor and Michael or Mykal Rose brought the energy to a whole new level. Explosive stuff, I literally ran up the Newcastle trail listening to Red it was a energy source in and of itself.
