Pain still lingers for Tivoli man, family

HENRICK Murray is a defeated man. For the past three years Murray, his wife Karen and their twin 14-year-old daughters have experienced a drastic change for the worse in their lives.

Things took a turn for the worse when Karen Murray, 38, was hit in the back by a bullet fired allegedly by members of the security forces during the May 2010 incursion in Tivoli Gardens as they attempted to serve an arrest warrant on incarcerated former strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.

COKE... woman crippled by bullet when security forces went after him.

The woman was standing in her home located in a high-rise building at Tivoli Court when a projectile smashed through a window and lodged in her back.

The gunshot damaged her spine and rendered her crippled for life and incontinent.

Now she is confined to a wheelchair.

"She can't help herself anymore. Our lives have been devastated because of the incident. We were both employed. She was a supervisor at LIME and I had my job at D&G but I got laid off. We were not involved in any criminality but since she has been shot, our lives mash up," a dejected Murray told the Jamaica Observer.

Murray was even more bitter when he recalled that today is Mother's Day and he would love to give his wife and the mother of his children the perfect gift. But sadly he cannot find a way to make her walk again.

We hear about those who died. Not a word about the injured. And of course, those affected emotionally and otherwise, who gives a damn!

Lots of stories to be told and they should all be addressed, as much as possible, by a COE.

What is the purview of a COE?

I don't know, but I hear we need one.

How exactly will a COE carry out its mandate in light of the findings in the PD's interim report?

I don't have the time this morning, Brickie. I need to catch up on some recordings of the Bonobo.

You mean you are not cognisant of a COE's mandate and you haven't read the PD's report...are we going to set up the ballistics lab (inclusive of comparison microscopes + firearm examiners) and run tests on all weapons used in Tivoli (3) years ago?

Well then a COE would be useless...you cannot get to the truth without the ballistics...

                    Tell that to the PD.

Why? The PD is fully aware of that...which is why he said we need to set up the forensics lab and test all weapons used by the security forces in Tivoli...maybe you should get yourself up to speed with the events surrounding this issue...without ballistics this is all a grand waste of time
