KINGSTON, Jamaica — A well-known Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) activist, allegedly involved in the robbery of Swiss Stores in downtown Kingston earlier this month, was today identified and charged by police.
Kayon ‘Treasure’ Campbell will answer charges of robbery with aggravation, illegal possession of firearm and conspiracy to commit robbery.
He was charged alongside two others, Donald Ho, a downtown Kingston businessman and Norman Robertson from Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Campbell shot into national prominence in 2010 when he was named as one of the targets in an alleged conspiracy by then Energy and Mining minister, James Robertson.
But Campbell helped Robertson refute the allegations when he acted as a character witness onstage at the JLP conference shortly after the allegations were made.
Campbell will face the Gun Court on May 3, along with the other two men charged with the daring April 10 daylight Swiss Stores robbery.
According to police reports a gunman walked into the downtown jewellery store on the day and made off with more than $7-million worth of Rolex watches.
