It is instructive and flies in the face of your 'prediction'...

Unless your idea of Government success or failure is based on winning elections...

Long time we a talk bout Panama. All of what is said there is very visible when you visit the place. The national spirit is soaring sky high, the young people are optimistic, the skyline of downtown Panama looks much more modern than your typical US city, and money is pouring in from places like Venezuela.

To your question on what JA needs to do to be the next Panama, the short answer is leadership. Since independence Jamaica has had leadership that ranges from poor to disastrous. The current Panama President is not perfect but at least he has a clue about economics and has a mind for problem solving at a macro level.

The good news is that if Panama can go from Noriega to this in a generation then there must be hope for the rest of us.

It is fascinating to watch a country in close proximity move from Third to First world status. I would encourage anyone to take a visit, there is a lot more to see than the canal. I expect to spend a lot more time there over the next few years. Just need to learn some conversational Spanish first.

Jamaica is not interested in the type of leader required to pull off a Panama..

They are more a Chavez, Mugabi, Manley country... those seeds were sown a long time ago and will continue to bear poison fruit for years to come or until our back is truly against the wall.. hopefully that comes sooner than later.. even then it may be too late for a Panama situation...

You on point. For the social chaos I woulda say 60/40 to the JLP though. But 95-5 for the PNP sound about right for the economy. The data tells a clear story.

Yuh right...wi like leada like dis:

                  A. SEAGA HAS HIS "GUNMEN" OR "SOLDIERS". SOME ASTUTE
LOCAL OBSERVERS CONTEND THAT IF IT WERE A SIMPLE QUESTION
OF JLP VERSUS PNP GUNMEN, SEAGA WOULD WIN. MANLEY, HOWEVER,
HAS THE SECUTITY FORCES OF THE GOVERNMENT AT HIS DISPOSAL.
JLP GUNMEN ARE NO MATCH FOR THAT KIND OF FIREPOWER AND
                  ORGANIZATION
                  Noice!!

You can create social chaos while not in power.
