According to Spear, prior to this payment he had not received money in years from Studio One. Prior to Coxsone's passing, couple brethrens put on a tribute show for him in Hartford, and they wanted to get other Studio One era artists involved. Freddie is very diplomatic when it comes to talking about that so you might not get too much from him in terms of controversy.- Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Yes very much so. I have mixed feeling about both of them.
On the Eddie Kendrick episode of "Unsung" recently, Otis Williams of the Temptations was telling the story that Eddie wanted the group to strike on Berry Gordy and refuse to do any more recordings until their contract was revised. Otis told Eddie that if they did that all Gordy would say is "OK. Next!" and give the songs to another upcoming group.
