More financial misconduct alleged at St. Catherine Parish Council

New reports have surfaced of alleged misuse of funds allocated to the St. Catherine Parish Council.

Some People's National Party and Jamaica Labour Party Councillors could find themselves in trouble in connection with the alleged withdrawal of $800,000 from a fund dedicated to road repairs and drain cleaning.

RJR News has been informed that the money was taken from the fund for disbursement to the councillors to purchase buns and tins of cheese during the recent Easter period.

It is reported that 40 cheques totalling $800,000 were prepared and disbursed to the councillors to purchase the items.

Reports reaching our news centre are that the funds were withdrawn without the requisite approval of the financial officer.

Chairman of the St. Catherine Parish Council, Dr. Andrew Wheately, could not be reached for a comment.

A claim that money from the coffers of the St. Catherine Parish Council were used to purchase bun and cheese for constituents is being dismissed by the Mayor of Spanish Town, Dr. Andrew Wheatley.

Speaking with RJR News Friday morning the Mayor expressed outrage at the claim.

“The council is outraged at such utterances because there is no truth to that. How can money be used to purchase bun and cheese? It is ridiculous, so ridiculous, I am outraged. There is no bun and cheese, no money was used to buy bun and cheese,” said Dr. Wheatley.
