    2 hours 11 minutes ago

Detective Sergeant Lloyd Kelly who was charged with the murder of Ian Lloyd o/c 'Chen Singh' on July 29, 2010 has been freed.

The Policeman was freed today, after the Judge in the case upheld a no-case submission and directed the jury to submit a no guilty verdict following the no case submission.

The shooting incident which was recorded on a phone and broadcast on national television, showed the St. Ann based cop attempting to apprehend 'Chen Singh'.
It was further alleged that Lloyd shot the 'Chen Singh' in full view of residents.

And some of us want to remove the UK Privy Council as court of last appeal and have our fate rest in the hands of these corrupt jokers...

Cop In St Ann Video-Recorded Shooting Freed Of Murder

Sergeant Lloyd Kelly, the St Ann policeman in the 2010 video-recording shooting of a St Ann man has been freed of murder.

Kelly was freed a short while ago after Justice Marva McDonald Bishop upheld a no-case submission by his attorneys.

In addressing the jury, McDonald Bishop said the Crown failed to make out a case that Kelly murdered Ian Chen Sing Lloyd.

Prosecution witnesses testified this week that Lloyd was being beaten and stoned by residents in Buckfield, St Ann shortly before the alleged video-recorded shooting.

The judge pointed out that the maker of the video recording was not called as a witness; that a medical report was not tendered in evidence; and the doctor who carried out the post mortem could not be located.

As a result, the judge said it could not be proven what had happened.

The judge also said there was a break in command in relation to the bullets taken from the body of the St Ann man.

Residents had claimed that Kelly was shot once, but two bullets were reportedly removed from the body.

The matter began in the Home Circuit court on Monday.

Then perhaps it should never have got to court because this was never going to be anything else but freedom for the cop.

But this is far from justice!

Why would the prosecutor not introduce the video or medical report as evidence?

Because they had no intention of seeing the cop go on trial, much less to be convicted.

Wow, this is the most blatant act ever of a police killing in Jamaica.
Even when there is video evidence, that is not sufficient?

So Defence lawyer & DPP explain the result like this:

                        * Witnesses all claim self defence by the Detective
                        * Maker of the video cannot be found so video cannot be verified as being
genuine and therefore not admissible as evidence
                        * Pathologist retired and moved back to India and funds not available to fly
                        him back in
                        * Judge had no option but to free the Detective

My question is that if the DPP knew this going in then why bring a murder charge at all? And how hard could it be to locate the maker of the video?
