Policeman held, another on the run following robbery
    Thursday, February 28, 2013 | 9:49 PM

KINGSTON, Jamaica - A Special Constable and a civilian were arrested during a joint operation carried out by cops from the Westmoreland Police Division and members of the Anti- Corruption Branch Thursday (February 28) after allegations that they were involved in a robbery.
Police reports indicate that a motor vehicle with three men was seen in the Tank Hill area of Negril, Westmoreland early Thursday morning.

It is alleged that the men went to a premises where they held up and robbed persons of an undetermined sum of money at gunpoint. Shots were fired but no one was injured. A 9mm pistol was later found at the scene of the robbery, the police say.
Personnel from the Westmoreland Police who were on patrol duties in the area responded to calls made regarding the robbery and were able to chase and apprehend the Special Constable who is on interdiction, as well as the civilian.
The third man ran from the vehicle and has since managed to elude the police. However, it was later discovered that he is a Police Corporal assigned to the Anti Corruption Branch, Montego Bay, and is currently on vacation leave.
Efforts are being made to locate him.

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

One is a supervisor in the Anti Corruption Branch? LOL.
The same type of thinking that created a problem cannot be used to solve the problem.

I hope there is no Jamaican thinking how horrible those South African police are for handcuffing that man behind their van and driving off with him. Because we have our own serious problems here and we are much too quiet about it.

Indeed, wi quick to jump down the JFJ throat whenever they dare to demand some amount of decency and professionalism from our police.

You dont get it do you ? You think it will ever stop when you have a corrupt system of governance , the peace officers are just a symptom of a bigger problem.Your org would be better served advocating for legislative change , instead your members are probably in leagues with the shitstem , having tea, coffe and latte at governmental functions bawling about police brutality. The peace officers are enforcers of anarchy ,that is what it is !

Corruption causes public funds – which could have been used to develop infrastructure such as roads, improve public institutions such as schools and hospitals, and improve the delivery of necessities such as light and water- to instead be used to increase the wealth of comparatively few people. Corruption increases poverty and reduces opportunities for job creation and investment. It may also cause a brain drain, where former contributors to a country’s economy may choose to leave due to their frustration and disillusionment.
Corruption destabilizes our society. It causes people to live in fear, undermines government and democracy, and impedes development and order. Corruption causes us to lose faith in our politicians, leading to a system that is neither transparent nor trustworthy.
        It is corruption when:

You can’t get a job or lose your job because of which party you support
You can’t get a contract or lose a contract because of which party you support
Money to fix the road, repair the gully or build the school ends up in the contractor’s pockets
Someone who cannot drive pays a money, gets a drivers’ license and causes an accident
Someone whose vehicle shouldn’t be on the road gets a certificate of fitness and the vehicle causes an accident
A policemen destroys evidence in return for money and a murderer gets off
An investor has to pay extra money to get approval for a housing development
When unqualified builders gets a permit and the school he builds collapses during a storm
When a policeman tips off a gang in return for money that the police is coming

The thing is in PUBLICLY fighting for justice for the love ones(family) of barefoot JaKans that are the victims of extra-judicial killings, the JFJ brought that crucial criminal issue to the forefront, and it shines the spotlight on Govt.
The JFJ(and the other human rights groups) unrelenting actions are probably what lead to INDECOM, and bwoy has there been some concerning facts revealed by INDECOM.....
Most of the things said about corruption can be applied to Govt current economic policies.

A chicken going to a vacation destination spot to roost.
At the pith of the criticism of institutionalized police induced corruption regarding extra-judicial killings was criminal activities.
If it is okay to commit capital murder why would anyone be surprised when police officers commit crimes of lesser degrees?
If the truth wasn't revealed it would have added to our troubling crime statistics appropriated to those barefoot criminals.

I have no quams with that but dont be the hyper - crytes (on steriods) sit down with said governmental legislators and have lunch with them, when their pockets grease the criminals (contracts) and in some cases are greased by the criminals(police and tief) , then cry when murder and mayhem come out of it, as if you dont see the link or hypocrsy!

I cant accept that Rock , THE JFJ CAN AND SHOULD BE DOING MORE !

The need for more actions from the JFJ is testimony of the perceived problems of poor leadership of Govt. The existence of JFJ is then not only welcomed but vital too.
The the troubling activities with Govt at the very heart mentioned in you post are the concerns of all but the duty(in terms of rectifying)of the police,of which the JFJ is its biggest critic.
Things have a way of evolving, there is always a threat of things mutating to something other than for what it was initially designed to be.
The NHT and the PNP are examples,as is, the JFJ is the least of our problems.

I never considered the JFJ a problem more so hypercrytes ,the jfj can never rectify the police given the pervasive nature of corruption in Jamaica and focusing on the ultimate end result (extra judicial killings) is hypercritical.

The massacre in TG is testimony to that , where were they when the end result was projected to happen and happening ? where were they when all the collusion or corruption was on going between police, tief and MP ?

Leave TG alone where are they now as it persists today , has anything really changed ?

The corroboration between politicians and barefoot gunmen is really esoteric,in one of the videos of JB being escorted to court or lockup,he alluded to the Media,he has vital inputs that they should be interested in hearing.
We JP are only privy to hearsay,as all the parties in the ring of corrupting have vested interest in maintaining secrecy.
INDECOM has to fight for the authority to make arrest, the JFJ is even more handicapped.

Handicap as to not having a voice to point out(verbalize/demonstrate ) against blatant, brazen corruption ?

Corraboration doesnt stop and start with MP and barefoot tief, you have middle men or institutions who are vassels , paper trails , even the police as you know are involved, how many police did Duss have on his payroll? How many of them participated on said human rights abuses in TG ?

JFJ can do alot more that is my belief, you can,t be handicapped into not having a voice in pointing out corraborration and one for the end result, hence my verdict : hypercrytes !

Do you perceive the JFJ to be lacking insomuch that continuing its very existence should be questioned?

Good question , no , they serve a purpose be it hypocritical. Its a step in the right direction , I believe as time go on they will grow into a true human rights organization .

That said the critique from JP is expected in order for it to reach that goal.
