Two Jamaican women allegedly beaten by police at CARIFTA games

Two Jamaican women, who were allegedly beaten by police and security personnel in the Turks and Caicos Islands, are contemplating legal action arising from the incident.
The two women Joy Davis and Suzette Moodie who returned to the island Monday are booked to appear in Court at the end of the month.

Miss Davis and Miss Moody were among a small group of Jamaicans who had traveled to Turks and Caicos to cheer on the Jamaica team at the recently concluded CARIFTA Games.

Miss Moody told RJR News Tuesday afternoon that she is expected to meet with her lawyers Wednesday to discuss her plan of action.

According to Miss Moody the alleged beating started after she protested attempts by security personnel to confiscate cigarettes found in her handbag.

Miss Moody said the security guard reportedly told her that she could not take the cigarettes into the stadium.

Miss Moody said she found it strange as she had been allowed to carry the cigarettes inside on previous days.

Other Jamaicans who were nearby reportedly intervened and a scuffle ensued where Miss Moody says she was beaten by police and security guards.

Miss Davis who had also protested the handling of Miss Moody was also allegedly beaten and later reportedly handcuffed by police.

Wha day nuff man did waan war wid T&T. Wonder wha wha the reaction gonna be now? Then again, as Jawge love fi say, "We're in the information age." Di people dem see that in Jamaica, Jamaicans are treated like second class citizens by the police, suh why shouldn't the same treatment be extended? If all Jamaicans were seen as people with rights and treated as such, unuh think nuh bwoy coulda waan tek step?
