Sass you are missing the point. These kids represent jamaica's brightest, and our future. I think, if they see evidence of our qualified people, people who look like them, being appointed to managerial/executive positions in the hotel/hospitality industry, they would be more than ready to strive for careers in those industries. Their argument is a valid one. They are saying that, there is no point to getting an education and entering an industry where the deck is unfairly stacked against them becuase of the color of their skin. They get qualified, and then some clown who spent his formative years as a clown, but because he is white, he is asked to trim his hair and filthy beard, dress in a cheap suit and, and tie and "come down to Jamaica and manage one of our properties, and dont worry about your not running anything in your life except a tiki bar in Monaco, you will have planty of good help". Well who is the help?. The Jamaican with a hospitality degree stuck as the deputy assistant vice position for 100 years. How could that be a tenable position for a student with ambition?. I dont have any problem bringing the guy from overseas, if that is what they want, but first send him to HEART, have him peel potatoes, or clean the pool for the same 20 years, at $30.00 a week that you would have the jamaican of equal qualification do, then advanve him to water sport manager. He could go back to wearing his board shorts, grow back his hair and beard, and have a lot of free time to smoke as much weed as they want, wearany color junk Bob Marley tie and die tshirt to work, and surf all day after 4 pm. That is all I am saying. I dont see anything wrong with that.

Well then that is good news...racism only exists in the hotel industry...if you listened to the race hustlers you would think it was widespread in Jamaica...phew...

The first thing is most of those kids will not be accepted in any university. Second thing is most can't afford university.

The fact is most progressive student who goes to HEART can move themselves or plan within a year or two and make a step forward. HEART is not for people to clean toilet and be slaveslike. You sounding like Romney.

Programs like these can be used as a stepping stone for people who want to be in the industry or people who wan't to make extra money to move on or simply need another chance for some reason or another.

HEART doesn't take Jamaica's brightest, but it give most a chance who didn't get in UWI who would be on the streets and those who sees no future rather than sitting idly on the street. It has also produced many PHDs.

Stop right there. I am quite familiar with the runnings at the ATL Group of Companies! It's obvious that you are not!

a lot of people are who don't know for example people doing HVAC are needed, Lanscapers are also needed, Enterainers make a lovely income as people like AJ Brown, Gem Meyers etc. don't even record, just do appearance and a whole host of dancer etc can build their skills there.

Yes not everybody want to be there and not everybody should be either but its an option that some need to explore.

Sorry Sass but these kids are far more advanced in their thinking than that.

HEART is an excellent institution. They produce skilled workers in various industries. If this logistics hub project is to have any success HEART will have to be a big part of it producing the workers that will be required to work in the operations.

One of the best things Seaga did during his time as PM. Of course that association alone will cause many to put it down.

Sure ReggaeDoc but "these kids" represent about 10% of the kids their age in JA! And I am being generous with 10%

                            What about the other 90%?

HEART would not exist if we had an excellent school system, from primary to tertiary.

It is not only in the hotel industry, so we should ignore it in the hotel industry?. These kids were addressing the hotel/tourism industry, and that is where the discussionn lies.
