I wonder what happened to the scribes when the printing press was invented?
I wonder what happened to the blacksmiths when the automobile was invented?,
I wonder what happened to the typists when the computer based word processor was invented?
How is anyone still employed with all the technology advances we have seen over the last century?
Must be a miserable world that we live in."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

Some industries have lost. Industries such as Printing, Newspaper, Music and others. Business have changed. Some has employed more others have gone out. Technology is good and bad in some cases. But so far I think it is a net gain.- Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.

Well, yes and no....it is true that there has been a skewing of the wealth towards the super rich in many countries in the last few decades, BUT the ordinary citizen has a FAR FAR superior life to his counterpart 50 years ago and that is due mainly to technology.
The skewing has happened before and corrected itself, check the kings of the Middle Ages or the robber barons in the US of the late 19th/ early 20th century, but the technological advances never go back. Most of us in the middle class live a more comfortable life than the super rich of 100 years ago.Last edited by Islandman; January 27, 2013, 11:18 PM."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

The fact is many countries have also have their GDP grow. Look at China, and Brazil. They may have super rich but many in the middle class has become richer and the governments now have more money to take care of development programs.
The easiest way to stiffle wealth is to have no growth in GDP over a period of time rather than to blame technology.- Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.

Exactly. Technology does cause disruption in many careers but it always creates new opportunities. 30 years ago was there anyone in school saying they were going to be a Cisco engineer, social media consultant, cell phone or cell phone minutes salesperson, Autotune expert, etc, etc.
Now if you used to press vinyl records and decide that you going to continue regardless because that is what you know...then you don't eat, and nobody to blame but yourself."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

the only problem I have with the music and other art form such as movie etc. is we all became cheats.
Imagine if there was royalties and payment for music etc as oppose to when DJs and collectors use to pay for a 45.- Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.

That is true, the existing business model for those art forms has been broken by technology.
A new business model has to be found. The younger generation simply do not believe that music should be paid for in the way that we grew up doing."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass
