Bunting, JFJ Saddened By Constable’s Death

    Published: Friday January 25, 2013 | 1:40 pm
National Security Minister Peter Bunting is expressing sadness at the shooting death of Special Constable Troy Foster who killed last night.

Foster, who was attached to the Black River Police, was fatally shot during an alleged shoot out with gunmen in Malvern, St. Elizabeth.

One gunman reportedly shot and killed during the confrontation.

Bunting said the attack on the police team which included Special Constable Foster highlights the ruthlessness of criminals.

He said this incident reinforces the need for police personnel to exercise vigilance at all times.

Bunting said the police have one of the most physically and psychologically demanding jobs, and every day, make tremendous sacrifices, often at the expense of their own families, to ensure the safety of the nation.

The national security minister is urging members of the public with information which can help the police to investigate the shooting to come forward.

In the meantime, human rights lobby group Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) has expressed regret at the killing of Special Constable Foster.

The group reiterates that an attack on the police while lawfully performing their duties is an attack on law and order.

It says it is also aware of the danger faced by police personnel as they carry out their sworn duty to serve, protect and reassure citizens.

The lobby group is hoping that support will be provided for the other member of the police team who reportedly came under fire from gunmen.

Let's see which one is going to visit the fallen crime fighter's family or attend his wake/funeral.
