  • TCI Investigators Recover US$12m From Sandals

Damion Mitchell, Editor - Online & Radio

The Turks and Caicos Islands Government and the Special Investigation Prosecution Team have reportedly reached an agreement with Sandals and its directors and officers following certain investigations.

In a statement today, Neil Smith, the spokesman for the TCI governor did not provide details on the nature of the investigations.

However, Smith said as part of an agreement Sandals will pay the TCI Government US$12 million.

Smith said the payment was agreed on because of the co-operation of Sandals with the United States authorities to a degree reportedly acknowledged to be both extraordinary and unique.

Smith also said there was early and voluntary release of valuable evidence to Special Investigation Prosecution Team.

He says the information has materially assisted investigators.

"This agreement is without any admission of liability by the company, its directors and/or officers," said Smith.

"It does not however prevent the prosecution of any other persons in respect of any facts and matters.

that is the problem with Jamaica. We expected the businessmen and others to charge themselves and to actually use their concience even when they don't have any.

The English too over TCI and not ramping so them nah hide nothing. All now Finscac can't be public. Why???? Who fi get charge fi get charge.

                    What kinda question this?
There had to be wrong doers. People need to be charged and come to the books. They need to let Greg Christie and the current Auditor General look it over

Can it be both morally and legally wrong as ignorance don't play any part in the law?

am I the investigator??? I know in such a meltdown laws are broken, and FINSAC is no different. Why do we have to hide the Jamaican Tax payers bail out??? Tell us how it all happen and who should be charged.

In Jamaica nobody is ever wrong, nobody goes to jail. Everybody have the moral and legal high ground at the tax payer's expense.
