I understand the sentiment but I say we need to "let them talk" and get on with the business of fixing the problems in our communities.

Yes there are times when protest and demonstrations against injustice are still necessary and we never have a problem getting motivated for those situations, but what about the other 300 days of the year when what is needed is tedious, less exciting work in the communities? That is where we falter and that is where most of the effort is required today to turn things around.

No we have to get outa blaming others.

There are a lot of things we need to do and copy some of what these people do.

You notice how these people get their kids involved in their business and support them? Too many of us don't even want our kids nowhere our business. We don't discuss economics with our kids and want them nowhere near our businesses even when they are educated. How are we going to grow institutions?

What is wrong with Butch's very good advice? I am sure when Butch bought the little rundown hotel in Mobay many laghed at him, the rest is history.
I may not like everything Butch do but he certainly put his money where his mouth is. Butch employs a lot a Jamaicans and also have Sandals foundation doing charity work.

A lady I use to work with who didn't even go to a traditional high school at the time worked her way up to director of sales in a top hotel, regardless of the names she was called. Today she is retired and owns Glamour tour with her daughter running it. It was just voted number 1 tour company in Jamaica by a British toursim publication. Yes we need to look for oppurtunities and take it, work with others we can and build our communites and country.

We have had 50 years and we can no longer blame anybody but ourselves. We have subsituted economics with politics, we have not speak about growth productitivity and we have astate where we all want government jobs as our long term goal.

Yeah different topic but the nexus is misinterpretation and different standards(or level of scrutiny)being applied.
In Jamaica we have secession within secession, a few years ago we were debating Kingston being the problem for Jamaica.
Yes,we have to overcome despite..,but we must never ignore or deny inequalities plaguing our nation,or we might end up unfairly blaming ourselves )

I am not sure why they would be vex because Butch doesn't want to develop a place unless the govt puts in place the appropriate infrastructure for the project to be successful. He already has made money since getting the property, so he can definitely afford to wait.

Jamaica is rich for exploitation by non-blacks. They know we are our worst enemies....

This forum serves as a good case-study in our relationships.

Though we need the same things in life...we debase each other because of ego.

As to Mr. Stewart, I respect him as a shrewd business man. Ask any 1st. year business student--why does one go into business?? The immediate answer is:........ "to make money!".

I wonder how many locals would lose their job if Mr. Stewart decided to close his many business and interest in Jamaica? What about the greater number of locals who derive indirect benefits. Mr Stewart employess purchase goods and services in their local communities.>>>>>

they may have a point.. but the return on investment at the boscobell air port is poor if any.. so butch has a point... The reason i dont go to portland more often is i dont want to drive 2 hrs. Butch is self serving at times but both factors are in play here.

Investment on infrastructure is long term. It takes vision. ROI will long outlast the Mr. Stewart and the current government

It's unfortunate that some can only see the benefit to Mr. Stewart. They would prefer to deny growth to the Parish and country--than to see Butch reap some benefit too.

But now it a go take you one hour from Boscobell brethren. Yes while it is better an extention of the Boscobel Airport have a lot if not more for Ochi still. I would have love the Ken Jones airport but they say the runway too short and that is why they choose Boscobell.

The extension is due and make it a small commercial airport. People keep on saying the want Portland to be "high end" and I stop selling it for high end, sell it to everybody. Are we reaching the "niche" market for high end????

That is exactly why i don't go to Portland very often myself.

Love the place, have roots there, lived there for a few years during my childhood, but it just takes too much effort to fit it into a short trip.
