Purchasing of police vehicles to be streamlined, Minister says

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of National Security Peter Bunting says that the brands and models of motor vehicles acquired for the police will be streamlined.
“28 different makes and 129 different models of vehicles in the police force…that’s just a nightmare for storing parts, maintenance, etcetera. So that’s one of the things that we are focused on,” Bunting declared Thursday.
He was speaking at a Rotary Club meeting in St Andrew.
Bunting however did not give a timeline on the proposed implementation or what brand(s) would be given preference by government.
He said that government spent some $600m in the last six months of 2012 to purchase vehicles for the police.
