  • Ecuador:

Did some business with a gendleman who said he was moving to Ecuador to retire.

"Ecuador?" i said to myself in a sniker.

Day-before-yesterday, i read that Ecuador was the #1 place in the world to retire.

What the hell do i know. I thought it was Jamaica

I know a guy and his wife who went to Ecuador last summer for vacation, and also to check out a condo for retirement. Can't recall where he went right now, but the area near the beach appeared to be affordable & peaceful. How can Jamaica move up on the list of top areas for retirement?

few years ago it was panama but as a result of the boom prices started to escalate ... colombia believe it or not is also a place considered for retirement. cost of living and property prices are low

Costa Rica is also good in central America. Some Americans moving to the Nordics too. Americans looking for free and good healthcare, security and relaxed lifestyle.

Jamaica had a good thing going with English Jamaican retiree in the late 80 and 90s but we seem to turn off some now.

Brazil too seems to be getting desirable.

A Brazilian friend who lives both here and there...states that the rate of development in Brazil is fascinating.

Hosting the World Cup and Olympics is extra 'fodder' for development.

I was looking at taking a trip at easter to either Quito or Lima... except my son might be going to the Dallas Cup which would put a spanner in my spokes... Ecuador looks interesting... and my wife is now talking about retiring... I asked her if she meant she wants Pirellis instead of the GoodYears on the car... LOL I sure as hell can't afford to quit working, but we looking for the future.... she actually picked Portland (Jamaica) high on her list of places to retire...

I think I'm 'retiring' this year...still looking for the perfect piece of property....acreage, stream, spring, fruit trees, forest, beach?.....actually saw one in Portland but was in the hinterlands...
