'Speak only standard English in schools'

    I agree that it would neither be practical nor necessary to treat English as a second language (ESL) across the board in schools.

    However I am more interested to see if if can be determined that there is some benefit to approaching English and patois that way for certain groups of students especially at the early childhood stage, who have had little to no exposure to people speaking standard English. Just as only a certain set of students in places like the US and UK are considered ESL students.

    At the Univeristy level, the study of patois as a language in itself is useful but for different reasons.
