CVM Television has announced that Simon Crosskill has joined the station as the executive producer and presenter for the programme Live@7.

Crosskill has spent the past 18 years as a lead presenter and sportscaster at the BBC and on local and regional television networks.

"This opportunity provides me with the perfect platform to facilitate expressions on a broad range of issues that are not necessarily sports.”

Crosskill will continue his engagenent with Sport Max, while working with CVM.

Dude is all over the place

Lucky guy has two presumably well-paying jobs! He is already resident discussion “expert” on SportsMax, but now executive producer (as well) for another media entity?

But then again, looking at where he has hung out for the past year or so, SportsMax’s “Zone” is a highly overrated sports discussion program whose sole saving grace is that pretty girl with lots of real sports knowledge, Alexis Nunes. That other guy Hinds contributes absolutely nothing whatsoever to the program, and as for Croskill….

Still, I wish Croskill all the best and hope he makes a positive impact at CVM.

      Historian,

IMO Sportsmax is not geared for in-depth dissection of sports but is more for entertainment... to an extent, like these fora on this site.

I do believe Wavell Hinds does add insight when it comes to cricket and cricket does take up a large part of the discussions...

Alexis Nunes... well sometimes I think they treat her the way some women have been on this forum, but she holds her own... she could tone down the hand gestures when she speaks, but that probably adds to her appeal... and to be fair to the show, they just don't have her only doing the updates, but sitting at the desk and contributing... and I must big her up for explaining to the viewership how the word "negrito" is used in many parts of Central and South America... sh'es fluent in Spanish I believe and has El Salvador background... not up on her details biographically.

Simon is a cantankerous old fart (him younger dan me...LOL) sometimes but his role it seems is to stir up controversy and thus stimulate interest in the show.

I consider him a good cricket commentator and knowledgeable as a presenter... it looks like (TV) journalism runs in his family...

          Good Comments, Peter

          Thanks for your reply, Peter.

I agree with you on the “entertainment” as opposed to the “in-depth discussion” aspect, but I also know that SportsMax’s “Zone” program does involve some amount of serious discussion as well. That is the reason why, for example, Wavel Hinds was hired -- to add some depth to cricket discussions. That is also why knowledgeable sources are sometimes invited on the program to discuss other sports (for example, swimming, track and field, etc.).

To give one example, this program had very serious, sometimes heated (thanks in part to an idiot named Carl Lewis) discussions during the Olympic Games, and even had guests like Deon Hemmings, etc. to add some amount of depth to the general chat.

I agree fully with your comments on the beautiful, obviously intelligent Alexis Nunes. However, she should, in my honest opinion, permanently occupy the chair in which Hinds sits! She is certainly much more knowledgeable than him about sports in general, and very articulate and charismatic too (Hinds is by no means articulate, and certainly not charismatic).

(Note that while cricket is a prominent feature of SportsMax, soccer is as well.)

Like you suggested, Alexis is indeed fluent in Spanish, and although she has Latino roots, she’s obviously a very proud native of Jamaica (she defends the land of her birth just as ardently and passionately as Crosskill does). I absolutely love her!

But back to the men: Lance Whittaker was the real deal, and as far as I’m concerned, he’s missed! Lance brought a certain class to the show that is not observable in Croskill’s DNA.

            Historian,

You're correct in a lot of what you say... during the recent run up to the JAAA elections I saw two candidates interviewed on the program and heard a telephone interview with the incumbent; they have also interviewed a wide audience from Ministers of government to the recently crowned world featherweight champion.

Your comments about Wavell are true regarding how articulate he is, but he has improved.... the fact that he played West Indies cricket and knows the rest of the Caribbean well is probably one of the reasons they have him in that seat, as the show is trying to appeal to a wider Caribbean audience not just Jamaica... remember they had a Trini and a Bajan as well in the chair ...
I like Wavell, primarily because he is a Liverpool fan... LOL, but seriously I can overlook his shortcomings because of his insight.

I also agree with you, Lance Whittaker is the man, BUT he does not create the controversy that Simon does and I think he adds the "Jerry Springer" appeal to the show...

...and of course Alexis Nunes is easy on the eyes, ears and she does make a WHOLE lot of sense.... her one character flaw is that she is a ManU fan but I will forgive her ...

just started watching it and I think Alexis is knowledgeable so is Simon and Hinds to some respect. Hinds is laid back but very knowledgeable about cricket...

Well said, Peter, and as much as I like to argue (I’ve always found it much more interesting to argue than to agree), there is nothing in what you have posted that gives me anything to attach an argument to.

For example, your point about Croskill’s role of creating controversy is spot on the mark, and this is certainly a role that the obviously more urbane Lance Whittaker was completely unsuited for. I also fully agree now with what you’ve said about Wavell’s role.

Good insights throughout, and much respect, boss!

The show would not work if you had two cantankerous hosts. So, Hinds complements Crosskill, to a point.

Having said so, he still comes across as too docile at times. If I want a smiley person on the show, I would rather have the female!

But the best thing about Crosskill is, he is very bright! Know a lot about a lot of subject areas. He will always be in demand.

Which school did Crosskill attend again? ahem, ahem... did someone say JC? go to the head of the class...

When the Crosskills returned to JA they, at least Hugh, that I remember, attended Providence Primary School where I was... PPS was located on the compound of the Methodist church at Matilda's corner... I remember the teacher asking the class (Grade 5 & 6) a question which I do not exactly remember... but she was looking for a word to mean confer etc... the answer was the word "negotiate"... Hugh Crosskill was the only person who knew the word... and could spell it! and of course he answered with that English twang... he impressed the hell out of everyone...

Simon I think was in class with Paul Marin...
