Jamaican company launches own brand of Tablet Computers

A Jamaican owned company has launched its version of the tablet computer called the "Smart Tab".

According to Irie FM News the "Smart Tab" is aimed at giving consumers an alternative to more expensive brands such as the Apple iPad and other tablet computers currently on the market, while not lessening the tablet experience. Lloyd Laing Vice-President of Research and Development stated that the "Smart Tab" has already been "picked up" by the University of the West Indies and at least one financial institution. A wide scale sale of the "Smart Tab" is expected to begin before the end of this month while the University of the West Indies has begun selling the tablet.

I would be very (pleasantly) surprised if this company developed the device

"Its version" means that they have equipped it with adapters that are suitable to Jamaica.

It probably has a patois spell check...local adaptation is key!

On a serious note, GOJ must make Engineering, Physics, Mathematics and Comp Sci tertiary fees FREE and raise the fees for legal, business and SocSci type of degrees.

We need a cadre of future makes to get in on dis new post information age.

That fee differential is an excellent idea. If not free the cost should be nominal for tech subjects

I would too. Most likely some British design, Chinese or Indian built knockoff trying to get market share by branding it as Jamaican. Hope the machine works and is deeply discounted. That is all we can hope for with those arrangements.
