Energy Minister Dr Lenny Saith says it was Trinidad and Tobago that advised Jamaica to approach Venezuela for liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies.

Saith also said the Prime Minister Patrick Manning administration did not renege on any finalised deal but had communicated to Jamaica that Trinidad was unable to supply the LNG being negotiated.

"I think in conversations with the Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago did indicate an alternative to that gas: for the Government of Jamaica to approach the Government of Venezuela to make LNG available and some arrangements have been made between those two countries," Saith said.

He was responding to questions on the issue posed during yesterday's post-Cabinet news conference at Whitehall, Port of Spain. </DIV></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

RE: 'We advised Jamaica on alternative LNG source'

I wonder what the defenders would say bout this?
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)
