          Motown's Session Men

I have always regarded Motown’s session musicians, the Funk Brothers, as being among the top two or three most creative aggregations ever assembled on this planet! As far as studio bands go, there is no question in my mind that they have impressed me more than any other ….anywhere!

Keyboardist Earl Van Dyke, bass player James Jamerson and drummers Benny Benjamin and Richard Allen were the members who stood out the most for me when I was a youth. The late James Jamerson, in fact, is without question one of the most influential bass players in the history of popular American music, and in my mind he has had an even greater influence on musicians than other legendary bass geniuses such as Larry Graham and Jaco Pastorious have had.

I feel that, unfortunately, the Funk Brothers were never given the recognition they deserved for their work on those countless Motown hits!

And you are absolutely correct, HL. “Come See About Me” was recorded originally by Diana Ross and the Supremes back in the early 1960s.

Any other recording of this song, including that posted by TDowl, came after that Diana Ross and the Supremes recording.
