MEMBERS of the National Heritage Trust Leo Club of downtown Kingston on Monday unveiled the heritage sign at the Colbeck Castle heritage site in Old Harbour, St Catherine.
The signs were developed by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT) in collaboration with the club and with support from the NCB Foundation and CIBC FirstCaribbean.
The sign gives a brief history of the castle.

The JNHT has been collaborating with the club — a service organisation comprising tertiary level students — on a beautification project of the historic castle. The club participated in fund-raising initiatives towards the creation of signs and storyboards at the heritage site. Colbeck Castle, which was built between 1670 and 1673 by English army colonel John Colbeck, was declared a national monument in 1990 and is in the care of the JNHT.
The three-storey structure is said to be one of the largest and best constructed fortified buildings to have survived in Jamaica. Its design mimics that of a seventeenth century Italian mansion with elaborate colonnades, balconies and unusual circular windows. The main building is constructed of dressed limestone walling with red rectangular towers were connected by brick-arched arcades.
The castle is sited within a terraced-wall compound.
