PORT ANTONIO, Portland:
HAVING LOST his job with the Banana Export Company in 2001 due to downsizing, Wayne Bailey ventured into new pastures and has since launched his own pest control and eradication business.
Bailey, who was trained in the handling of pesticides, became certified by pursuing a number of courses through the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Today, he is providing a unique type of service to several business operators and schools in and around Port Antonio.
"This is what I do best. My experience with the Ministry of Agriculture in the area of pesticide use is probably what motivated me to give serious thought to this new occupation," Bailey told The Gleaner. Today, my mission is to rid supermarkets, schools, bakeries restaurants, villas, and homes of insects and other pests. My services involve rodent control and eradication - termite eradication, roach eradication, and the termination of other pests and insects."
He claims that because many business operators are refusing to pay for such services, this has resulted in an increase in the population of rodents, roaches, flies, mosquitoes, and termites, which are now threatening to overrun the parish. Bailey also said that dozens of mini-restaurants and cook shops are not properly disposing of their waste, resulting in an increase in the insect and rodent population in the Port Antonio area.
Infectious pests
The launch of B&P Plants & House Care Pest Control Company has provided householders and business operators in Portland and neighbouring parishes with an opportunity to rid their surrounding of infectious pests and rodents that can be harmful to humans.
Continuing, Bailey said: "It is your responsibility to take care of your environment in terms of rodent control. The purchase of your house is a lifetime investment, so when you realise there are problems with termites, ensure that you get the professionals to come in and rid the property of such pests. The treatment ensures you a five-year guarantee of a pest-free property."
