Lawyer Seeks Release Of UTech Security Guards

The lawyer for the security guards implicated in the alleged assault on a student at the University of Technology (UTech) is to go to court today to seek their release.

Attorney-at-law Christopher Townsend says he will be filing a writ of habeas corpus before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.

The security guards, who have since been fired by Marksman Limited, have been in police custody without charge since Saturday.

They were expected to face an identification parade yesterday but the witness did not turn up.

The security guards were arrested after they were seen on video tape beating the student.

The incident occurred last Thursday after the male student was set upon by a mob which alleged he was found in a compromising position with another male student.

He reportedly ran and sought refuge in one of the guard rooms on the campus as the mob descended upon him.

While in the security post, the security guards were caught on tape hitting the young man.

We definitely would have a better grasped of the issue if we were lawyers,but the guards were arrested without a witness needed because of the video evidence, why is one needed for them to be charged? Caan pay yuh boss fi de info,but is your bad luck we are friends counsel.

Well, firstly, as a general view on our justice system, it seems as if we don't go the ID parade route nothing can get done in our courts.

But more specifically, wouldn't Marksman know who was working that evening? Could they not use the video tape to know who was doing the bitch slapping? Afterall, it appears that is what they used to fire the two security guards.

not the best evidence when there are eyewitnesses.

each aspect of the case must satisfied. so it is not enough that they now who was working that night, someone needs to say THAT is the person i saw doing it. there were so many eyewitnesses that it will be hard to justify not getting an eyewitness.
